Beyond the Waves

The painting "Beyond the Waves" reflects my delight in the festive attire of the women of the Odesa region; I was especially enchanted by the headdress — a "wreath with sweets." The "sweets" were made of cotton wool wrapped in corrugated paper. The paper flowers were decorated with beads of blown glass. The Odesa region is associated with the sea, so I depicted waves and a little fish. And fish, like water, symbolizes life, purification, health, and fertility. For this image I chose the facial features of Daniela Zaiushkina.
