Berehynia

"Berehynia" depicts a woman holding earth in her palm, from which ears of wheat sprout. In hoary antiquity, our ancestors called Berehynia the goddess of all living things, the primordial deity-protectress of humankind, the goddess of fertility, nature, and goodness. Later, the name came to be used for women in general — those who upheld and guarded the family hearth, national traditions, and spirituality. In the background are a wedge of storks and a wheel, which add to the warmth of the image. The Ukrainian woman is dressed in the festive attire of Western Polissia.
